• John Griffiths founded ooma:design in 1997, where as one of a rare breed of 'Designer Makers,' he is able to offer clients the insight which comes from being both a skilled cabinet maker and qualified architect. His wealth of experience, hands on approach and affinity with the materials, sees him managing all aspects of projects - from conception and design, overseeing planning applications and providing meticulously hand illustrated plans, to crafting the stunning original furniture, architectural elements and buildings themselves.

  • John's interest in design began in a studio in Zurich, where he spent many an hour with his uncle, the acclaimed graphic designer Fritz Gottschalk, who was a great influence upon him. However, his Swiss grandfather, an artist and bookbinder, was another very important role model for John, as was his father, who designed and made his first bunk bed, the process of which fascinated him.

  • As a talented golfer, John attended Millfield School, in Street, though there he discovered that the place he felt most comfortable was not on the golf course as he'd thought but in the woodworking studio; with his parents' encouragement, it seemed more natural for John to undertake a Foundation Course, National Diploma, in Art and Design at Bath College of Higher Education.
